A: They are hard questions! I just want to see what green one is like … just a peak … are they really easier? Oh, these are easy! (Girls laugh)
A: OMG This is hard …. Have you ever felt that judges have not given you scores you deserved?
(girls laugh)
A: You know what, that like, I think that, a lot of us have felt that way. I mean for me, it’s really frustrating if I look at the judges’ sheet and I do the lutz like this (lifting his arm) and look at the judge’s sheet and there’s like two people are like zero, they give me like zero…. What, I don’t know what would they give a +1? I can’t do like (lifting his leg) .. I can’t do anything else.
G: (Clap, clap?)
A: (Adam claps his hand and snaps his fingers) … that’s when I feel frustrating when I look at the scores or componets, 8 from this judge, 8 from this judge, 7.5 from this judge, then, 5.0! ….then, it’s like “WHY?”. That’s when I get frustrated … their opinions aren’t the same. But the most frustrating thing is the lutz. Like, you don’t get any extra credit for trying something like that. (girls agree “Yeah!”) so …
G: I still remember when first time you did it here, they had to give extra points because it was a new element.
A: Yeah! But I mean, I… I… I know on the paper it’s just a triple lutz… it’s just a lutz… but it’s frustrating because, you know, I worked hard on it and it’s better then somebody like normal lutz.
G: Have you done it with other jumps with your arms up?
A: I’ve never tried it, but I think if I work on it, since (like) I’ve figured it out, I might be able to. But I don’t want it like be THAT person, like “here he goes again”.
Q: What has been the most difficult time in your carrier?
A: I would probably have to say …. probably the 4 continents last year. It was just …. It was a combination of I have worked very hard and I had a lot of expectations to do really well that year, and it kind of like, at the Nationals I was just like uh!. I don’t wanna do any more, so at 4 continents, I was like, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. So after that, then, I would think it was probably be the big turning point, one of the most difficult things, and now kind of rebuilding. It’s difficult as well, but it’s, um, I see that and I feel that I’m improving, and each competition, I’m getting better and better and I’m regaining my confidence again.
G: I just say your hair was too short!
A: Okay! (laugh) Maybe that was why I was having trouble. (laugh) Maybe it was too short and I needed to balance out.
G: And the last one.
Q: Have you ever called your coach and lied saying you cannot go to training because you were sick?
A: Honestly, I have never done that. Never!
G: You’re the first one who said “No”.
A: Really? (laugh) I’ve never done that. You see, I’m a little crazy, because like I’ll go to practice and my coach will be like, “ Why are you here?” Because it’ll be like, I’ll just get off the plane and go to the rink and I’ll be like I gotta skate, and my coach will be like, “What? Go home.” It has happened like a bunch of times with all the coaches that I had. I just do something crazy like that but, but I’ve never done that. Never!
G: So, 30 points for Adam, wooooo!
(everyone clapping hands)
Adam (A): …. I have to get 30 points.
Question (Q): What's your biggest pet peeve about your coach?
Adam: OMG! These are hard questions!
Girls (G): Haha….(laughing) If you don’t answer you don’t get points.
A: Right! Yes, so I have to answer these.
A: I think one of the thing I like about Jason is that sometimes he could be so calm no matter what circumstance, and sometimes, it’s like, I’ll skate a bad session but he’ll be like, “Well, it’ll happen” …… Well, aren’t you gonna get mad at me? (laugh) So, I’d have to say it’s probably the one thing that really I like, but it’s at the same time, sometimes, it could be one of the most annoying thing (at the same time).
Q: What is the event with the worst organization you’ve been to?
A: Um, okay, I’m thinking this is probably like, … like when you’re little you do bunch of competitions, they’re like so unorganized… like you go there an hour early …. And you’re like “ I just got here!” But like in recent history.. worst organized….??? I have to think.
G: Think! Think! We have time.
A: You know, I can’t say that I’ve really been to a competition that was like terrible organization, I’ve always been lucky. I have to say that probably, when I did the Rostelecom Cup few years ago. It was the longest bus ride ever, it was like an hour and a half to get to the rink every day. So probably that was the worst experience, It’s like getting to the rink….
G: Someone told us that one of the Bulgaria Junior Competition wasn’t very good.
A: That, too! Yeah, that, too. Oh my gosh, these are good questions.
Q: Have you ever had to skate to a program you did not like? Which one?
A: Um, YES! But you know what, it’s funny, because like my programs, I um .. sometimes when I get it, I’ll be like mmm, it’s okay, and then I train it the whole season and I like but I think I like something better, and the season will be over and I see the program, “Oh, wait, I really, really like that program”. And I think like probably one program I really was unsure about, was my long program from the 2009-2010 season that I had done here in Paris. (Like) The music I had never heard (the music) before when David choreographed it. I liked the program but looking back on it, it’s probably one of my favorite programs to watch, but doing it, I didn’t really ….. Now watching it, David did such a wonderful job. So it’s so funny that I appreciate more of the programs when I don’t see them.
